 Hi all,

Happy New Year, 2023.

Just a quick update.

Unfortunately, my Facebook account was hacked a few weeks ago and I lost my account completely as a result.  This means that my FB page, 'Michael House, a vegan guest house in Cornwall' currently is not available for my use, I cannot see any messages sent to me.  So, please be reassured I am not  ignoring messages, nor have we closed down.  Until I get this sorted out, or start a new page, please contact me by email, on info@michael-house.co.uk.  Thank you and so sorry for any inconvenience.  Hope to see you.

Delighted to let you know that our normal email address is now working again.  info@michael-house.co.uk, if you wish to make a booking or have any queries.  We plan to open on 24th May.

 Hello,

We are hoping to re-open on Monday 24th May 2021

The info@michael-house.co.uk email is currently not available, so sorry, really bad timing for it to be down.  Please do use vanessalackford@icloud.com for a while.  I hope the usual one will soon be up and running again.

Hope to see you in a few months.

 Hi all,

We have taken the difficult decision not to re-open Michael House this season.  As we are caring for Simon’s elderly mother, it seems wise that we remain shut.  We hope to see you next year.

2020

People sometimes comment on how reasonable a stay at Michael House is. They wonder whether breakfast is extra, it isn't, and are surprised that there are so many dishes to choose between for evening meals. Because the meals are planned ahead and I cook only one dish for each course, ie., everyone has the same, there is really no limit to what can be offered, apart from what is available in local shops and my skill and imagination.
Realising that charging £34.00 per person, per night for bed and breakfast if you stay for five nights or more with another person in the same room, is really slightly embarrasingly cheap, we have reveiwed our prices for 2020.
And have decided to KEEP THEM THE SAME.
Making money is not our motivator, making people happy is. As long as we make enough to get by, that is all that matters to us. By not increasing prices, we may not be able to update the bathroom in room 2 for yet another year. Yes, it is still pink!
We do charge considerably more for one night stays (£42.00 pppn) but it comes down to £36.00 per person per night for two to four nights.
And doggies are welcome, if accompanied by well behaved humans. We charge £10.00 per doggy, per stay, for up to 7 nights.
Pickle will welcome you to your room, if you would like her to, will join you, roll about a bit, help you settle, then leave. Berri will love you and demand a lot of love back, Sheba will knick your seat if you stand up and will want to sit on you. Velvet is nine now, so not as cute as here in her baby picture. All the animals (there are more than shown)can be elsewhere if preferred.
Hope to see you in 2020.

Just to let you know that we will be shut for the remainder of 2017 and the first few months of 2018.  This is because I, Vanessa, am having a hip replacement operation.  Hoping to be up and running, literally, again by the spring.  Many apologies and hope to see you soon.

Some changes

I want to let people know about some changes that are about to happen at Michael House.  Simon's mum, Elizabeth will be moving in, into her own flat downstairs.  It will mean we will have just two letting rooms, the two existing en-suite rooms.

For those who know the house, the downstairs sitting room will become Elizabeth's flat, the room at the back of the house on the first floor will become a lovely, cosy guest sitting room.  The downstairs cloakroom will be turned round and open from Elizabeth's room, and will become her shower room. There will still be a guest loo upstairs.

Work will begin next week, the week beginning the 16th March, the main task being the creation of the shower room. It will be some weeks before Elizabeth will move in.  An exciting new chapter for us all.

Do ask any questions you might have.  We will still welcome non residents who wish to have evening meals here.

Why not spend Christmas Day this year at Michael House?
Arrive around 1pm, enjoy some mulled wine or a soft drink, sit by the fire and relax. Our four course Christmas meal will be served at around 3pm. Then, more relaxing, and a buffet meal in the evening.
Come and join our resident guests for the day, relax, be looked after.
£40.00 per person, including mulled wine/initial drink. Other drinks, individually priced. Four spaces available. Hope to see you. All vegan.
Other days around Christmas, New Year, by arrangement.

Availability

We do have some availability next week, between 11th and 16th August, hope to see you.

Echiums

The echiums this year are superb.  They
are the first we have had in flower since 2008, as all the young ones have been killed in winter frosts, until last winter, when we barely had any frost.

Trip Advisor review

This is the most recent review we have received.  I do not usually post such reviews, and will not frequently do so, but was so thrilled by this, that, well, here it is:

1 review
Why the wow factor? .
Wow 1 - the aroma of our evening meal cooking when we arrived.
Wow 2. - the view from our room (room 2) over the valley towards Trebarwith Strand and out to sea.
Wow 3 - the food - from the first mouthful of mushroom, walnut and puy lentil pate on our first night to the last speck of chocolate pot on our last night we enjoyed every morsel.
Wow 4 - the loaf of freshly baked bread each morning.
Wow 5 - breakfast - home made muesli, the "Full Michael" and a selection of interesting preserves.
What can we say that hasn't already been said? - you can get a mobile phone signal! We had only just arrived when our Vodaphone started ringing.
We have passed Michael House a number of times over the years when going to Tintagel so we thought we would book a short break for ourselves and dogs to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We must echo the experiences of other reviewers. We received a warm welcome from Vanessa and Simon. Our room was very spacious with a massive bathroom. We were offered dog towels if we needed them - luckily we didn't. Vanessa's cooking is fantastic, we would recommend anyone staying B & B to try an evening meal. She is so passionate about her cooking and readily shared recipes. We stocked up with lemon and ginger marmalade, from the local farm shop, on our way home.
There is one thing that is average about Michael House - the cost. This makes it excellent value for money,
Vanessa and Simon - thank you for making our anniversary so memorable.
Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2 at the front have the fabulous views out to sea.
